Lenovo Legion Y70: Official Flagship Killer From 430 Euros!

Lenovo Legion Y70

The company that owns Motorola gives us a real flagship killer in the Lenovo Legion Y70. The Chinese company is putting out an Android phone with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 for the same price as 430 euros that looks good and has good technology. China was the first.

Motorola Is Done – Lenovo Is Coming

After the Moto X30 Pro, S30 Pro, and the foldable Moto razr 2022 were all well-received, the company is now focusing on its own brand and showing off the Lenovo Legion Y70 and the self-sufficient VR glasses called Legion VR700. But I’ll talk about that in a different piece. The Y70 also shows that the group has changed its mind, which the three Motorola smartphones have already shown. Yes, I’m talking about the price, which, at least in China, is already very low. One can only hope that the group’s plan will be used everywhere.

Lenovo has taken over the Motorola Mobility division of Google. The Chinese company now owns the Moto and Droid phones made by the unit as well as its 3,500 employees, of which 2,800 are based in the US.

The Lenovo Legion Y70 Should Be Cheap Everywhere.

Because the Y70 is sold for 2,980 yuan and comes in black, white, and red with 8/128 GB of memory. Which would be about the same as 430 euros. The price of 3,370 yuan (nearly 490 euros) for 12/256 GB is also clear. At 4,270 yuan, even the most expensive model with 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of internal UFS 3.1 programme memory is not too expensive (approx. 620 euros). The thin, almost sterile case of a “gaming smartphone” is one of its most appealing features. If it didn’t say “Legion” on it, I wouldn’t think of it as a Legion if it was 163 x 77 x 7.9 millimetres.

It may have been put in this category because it has an octa-core Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and enough memory. The 6.67-inch AMOLED screen can also do something. It has a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels (FHD+) and a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz. Not to mention the 1,500-hertz touch sampling rate. How the Chinese company got a 5,100 mAh battery into a case that is less than 8 millimetres wide is probably a mystery. At least, that is where the 209 grammes come from. With the 68-watt power adapter, the battery can be charged just as quickly.

Isn’t A 50MP Main Camera Worthy Of A Flagship?

With our heretical headline of “a possible flagship killer,” I’m sure I’ll get in trouble for the three cameras that are already built in. After all, you are now used to 200 megapixels because of the Moto X30 Pro. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Y70 has “only” 50 megapixels and a 1/1.55-inch image sensor that supports both optical image stabilisation and electronic image stabilisation. Above that is a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and macro camera, and at the very bottom is a 2-megapixel “nice to have” lens for cool bokeh shots. In the top centre of the screen on the front, there are 16 megapixels (punch hole). The only way to know if this camera is really as “bad” as the data sheet says is to test it.

The Lenovo Legion Y70 was designed with stereo speakers in mind, which are best for Dolby Atmos sound. The phone comes with the ZIUI 14 user interface, which is based on the Android 12 operating system. As a real gaming phone, the phone doesn’t have shoulder buttons on the side. But in the accessories, there is a gamepad on the side and a fan that can be attached to the back.
